Greetings and Happy New Year!

I hope you and your family enjoyed a wonderful holiday break and that our students returned healthy, refreshed, and ready for a successful second semester.

Superintendent Search Input Session

The Oglethorpe County Board of Education will host a Superintendent Search Input Session on:

  • Thursday, January 15 at 6:00 p.m.

  • Oglethorpe County High School Cafeteria (749 Athens Road, Lexington, GA)

This session provides an opportunity for staff, parents/guardians, and community members to share input on the qualities and priorities they would like to see in the district’s next superintendent.

If you are unable to attend in person, a survey will be available following the event.

Please mark your calendar, plan to attend if possible, and help spread the word.

Patriot Health Hub Update

Our Patriot Health Hub continues to serve our community at a high level. During the month of December alone, the Health Hub saw 198 patients (students, staff, and family members)—despite being closed for part of the holiday break.

Due to the high demand, the Health Hub is expanding its hours effective immediately:

  • Monday: 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

  • Tuesday: 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

  • Wednesday: 7:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

(Last appointment for medical and behavioral health at 6:00 p.m.)

  • Thursday: 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

  • Friday: 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

(Last appointment for medical and behavioral health at 2:00 p.m.)

Attendance Matters

Regular school attendance is critical to student success. We understand that there was significant illness prior to the holiday break, and we appreciate your cooperation in following attendance guidelines.

Please remember:

  • An excuse note must be submitted immediately following an absence.

  • Parent or medical excuses may be used for the first 10 absences.

  • After 10 absences, only medical excuses will be accepted as excused.

  • After 8 unexcused absences, the school counselor will contact parents to schedule a meeting and develop an attendance contract.

  • After 10 unexcused absences, a student may be referred to Risk Reduction.

Risk Reduction is not intended to be punitive. It is a supportive process that brings together community agencies to help families improve attendance. The Risk Reduction team includes representatives from:

  • Oglethorpe County School System

  • Department of Juvenile Justice

  • Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Department

  • Department of Family and Children Services

  • Oglethorpe County Health Department

Students may also be referred to Risk Reduction due to excessive tardies. Please do your part by ensuring your child attends school each day they are able.
